Free school meals in Year 3

18th July 2025

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This letter is to inform you about an upcoming change in school meal provision for your child as they transition from Year 2 to Year 3 in September.

Currently, your child is eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM), which provides free school meals to all pupils in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2. This entitlement ends when your child moves into Year 3.

From September onwards, school meals will be available for purchase by all pupils in Year 3 and above. The cost of a school meal is £2.61. You will need to pay for your child's meals using school grid. (more information to follow).

If you believe you may be eligible for Free School Meals based on your family's income and benefits, you can apply for FSM through the free school meals webpage is www.n-somerset.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals if your application is successful, your child will be entitled to free school meals until they leave year 6 and the school will receive additional funding which we use to fund additional staffing, trips and subidies for experiences across the school.

We encourage you to apply for free school meals as soon as possible if you think you may be eligible, as this funding can significantly benefit your child's education.

If you have any questions or require assistance with the application process, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Key points to remember:

  • Universal Free School Meals (UIFSM) for Year 2 ends.

  • Paid school meals will be available for Year 3 onwards.

  • Parents can apply for Free School Meals (FSM) based on income and

     benefits.

  • Applying for FSM can provide additional funding for your child's

     school.

  • Contact the school for any questions or assistance

Yours Sincerely

Marie Berry
