PSHE Rationale

 

Through the teaching of PSHE, our vision at Bournville Primary School is to create knowledgeable, confident and resilient children who have the skills necessary to care for themselves, their school and their community. We aim for our children to resist peer pressure, manage emotions and have a deep respect for people and the environment.

 

Curriculum Design

 

Our PSHE curriculum is based on the requirements set out by the National Curriculum and follows the PSHE Association Programme of Study. It provides a spiral structure, showing progression which will begin to be supported by knowledge organisers over the coming year.

The units planned match the children’s age-related interests and will develop skills necessary to become highly functioning members of the community.  

The PSHE learning is bolstered by the school’s additional work on the Mind Up programme, e-safety work and is hugely supported by the Behaviour Policy of the school as well as our work on British Values. RSHE is included within the PSHE units of work.

The PSHE Association breaks learning into three long-term topics a year: Health and Well-being, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World.
