  • End of day procedures

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

The end of day can be a very busy time with almost 500 pupils being released from school.  Staff priority must be ensuring pupils are released safely to the right adults.  Therefore, please can we ask for your support with this.  If you need to speak to the class teacher, please wait until all the children have been released.  If you approach a member of staff on the classroom doors, they will ask you to wait while they focus on releasing children.  We welcome your communications and just waiting a few minutes will enable us to give your comments the attention they deserve.  Alternatively, staff will always make time to give you a call after school, so please let the office know if you need to speak to a teacher or any other member of staff.

Many thanks for your support with this.

  • Kidscape Video Release

    Mon 13 Nov 2023 KS

STOP PRESS! We can't wait any longer! Back in July we had the exciting opportunity to welcome Kidscape charity into school to create a film on Anti Bullying and Peer Mentoring. We have worked closely with Sarah and the team for a while and this was a fantastic day of showing off how amazing our school community is. We are so proud to have been chosen to be a part of creating this film and now we can share it with you.

Thank you Kidscape for this opportunity that we know we will never forget! Click on the link below to see the fabulous video!

  • alarm practice

    Tue 31 Oct 2023 FB

In the next few weeks we will be making sure that the children know how to act safely in respond to alarms in school. Adults will be making sure that children know what the fire and lockdown alarms sound like and how they need to act and behave to keep themselves safe when they hear these in school.  This is standard across all schools and children are already familiar with our processes so may come home and talk to you about this.  Please support us by talking to your children about this being another one of the many ways we talk about keeping safe in school.

  • After school club

    Thu 08 Jun 2023

On Monday we started the new after school club systems. The newcosts of £10 per night have been communicated to all families. Following feedback from parents about how many nights they required after school club for, we were in the position to keep the club going at the new price. However, this first week has seen significantly lower numbers of children attending than we expected. This therefore poses a significant risk to our ability to keep the club going. This really is a 'use it or lose' it situation. Neither Windwhistle Primary School or Bournville Primary School is in a position to be able to subsidise the costs. Please can I remind all working parents, claiming universal credit, that you can claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs - please follow this link to see how this can be achieved. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-childcare-costs We will continue to monitor the attendance closely over the next week, however without commitment to regularly attending the club, it is unlikely that we will be able to keep it going. Please support this vital service.

    Thank you

  • Tender Project January 2023

    Mon 17 Apr 2023

Back in January Tender visited our year 5 and 6 children to work with them on promoting and developing healthy relationships.  They came to school and worked with the children about what healthy relationships looked like, how they can keep themselves safe both in person and Online and who can help support them if they ever feel unsafe.

Tender told us that during this time they "were made to feel very welcome at Bournville Primary School, and the young people chosen for the project were articulate, bright, engaged, and enquiring."

Tender were able to share with us some of the things that our children said they gained from being part of this project which can be seen in the picture below

  • Information about Group A Streptococcus

Mon 05 Dec 2022 Amy Corlett

Group A Streptococcus is a bacteria that causes mild illnesses like sore throats and skin infections.

Rarely, these bacteria can cause severe illness called 'Invasive Group A Streptococcus disease'. Please see the link below for more information:

    https://www.nth.nhs.uk/content/uploads/2017/09/IPC473.1-Group-A-Streptococcal-Infection-22.08.17.pdf

We have not had any cases of Invasive Group A Streptococcus disease in school.

We have had a few cases of mild illnesses related to Group A Strep as we always do at this time of year.

We are following advice to continue with rigorous cleaning and regular hand washing to reduce the spread of these mild illnesses.

Please help by keeping your child off if they are unwell  - see the link below about when to keep your child off school.

Please see your GP if your child is ill and you are worried about them.

  • Bank holiday notice

    Mon 12 Sep 2022

    12 September 2022

Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace of the death of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the State Funeral. This is a period of time for reflection in response to the death of the Sovereign.

The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19 September 2022. This day will be a national bank holiday and all schools and colleges will be closed on that date - including all ELAN primary schools; Bournville, Locking, Mead Vale, Mendip Green, Milton Park, Oldmixon, Walliscote and Windwhistle.

Schools reopen as normal on Tuesday 20 September 2022. Normal attendance is expected throughout the National Mourning period, other than the bank holiday.

As with normal bank holidays, on Monday 19 September 2022 there will be no after school clubs, holiday clubs, access to free school meals or school staff for enquiries.

    Yours sincerely,

Extend Learning Academies Network - ELAN
